Enoch Powell takes the information and analysis of the current Britain and the changes that differentiated from the pass predicting the future. This change focuses on the West Indians of the Windrush Generation and their addition to the British culture. The author believes that at some point there will be a population filled greater with minority than British Whites.
Moreover, Powell articulates, “It almost passes belief that at this moment 20 or 30 additional immigrant children are arriving from overseas in Wolverhampton alone every week,” (Powell 2) displaying the constant change aiding to the conversion of Britain’s diversity. Furthermore, Powell is not in one shape elated about this change continuously showing hostility, questioning the nations permitting of this population change.
Enoch Powell cultivates the statement, “I fell into conversation with a ordinary working man…In this country in 15 or 20 years’ time the black man will have whip hand over the white man,” (Powell 1). This is an emotional build up to the fear of the lack of power the white British men could potentially have.
In Powell’s support of the “Keep Britain White” campaign, the black man taking over the white man is a prime reason to keep the control and power of the country in the white man’s hands. Powell could not put off this statement and think about something else, when it is actually true through evidence.
The West Indian men came to this country and single handedly transformed the white man’s view of their own country. Powell appealed to the reader’s emotion by presenting an average man and his terror that was occurring in his homeland.
According to Powell, “By 1985 the native-born would constitute the majority,” (Powell 2). This goes on to bring up the question, “How can its dimensions be reduced?” and the author provides the answer excerpting, “…By stopping, or virtually stopping, further inflow, and by promoting the maximum outflow. Both answers are part of the official policy of the Conservative Party,” (Powell 2). Powell uses the Conservative Party as a source of credibility to the solution of the on going problem, as seen by Powell, to the population ratio of blacks and whites.
